Philips Hue 'SpatialAware' feature harmonizes all the lights in a room

Engadget

The company also introduced Apple Home support and natural language automations at CES. Philips Hue has introduced a new software feature called SpatialAware at CES 2026 designed to ensure that all the lights in a space are in harmony with each other. Available exclusively for the Hue Bridge Pro, it takes into account each light point in a room and tailors the colors to ensure a natural representation. In a sunset scene, for example, the lights on one side of the room emit warm yellow tones to mimic the setting sun, while the ceiling lights on the opposite side reflect darker shades, the company wrote on its blog. The new feature is set to launch in the spring of 2026. To use the feature, you scan a room with your smartphone camera and use augmented reality to determine the positions of individual lights.

Major Philips Hue leak reveals 'Pro' hub with a killer feature

PCWorld

Philips Hue appears to be teeing up a new, more powerful hub that can turn Hue bulbs into motion sensors, according to leaked details and images that briefly appeared on Philips Hue's own website. The unannounced products, which have since been yanked from the "New on Hue" page, included the "faster" Hue Bridge Pro as well as a wired video doorbell, a refreshed and more efficient A19 bulb, permanent and globe-style versions of Hue's Festavia outdoor string lights, a gradient light strip, and the ability to control your Hue lights with the Sonos voice assistant. No pricing details were included in the leaked details, which were live on the Hue website for several hours Wednesday. The leaked products were initially spotted by users on Reddit. Reached by TechHive, a Phillips Hue spokesperson declined to comment.

Is Philips Hue about to unleash its first video doorbell?

PCWorld

Philips Hue appears ready to expand its line of home security devices, with clues to the manufacturer's plans hidden within its own app. The leak details an unannounced product that would round out Hue's existing catalog of security cameras, floodlights, and motion and contact sensors: a video doorbell, which would mark a logical next step in terms of brand's smart security lineup. As HueBlog.com reports, intel about the purported doorbell was discovered by a reader doing a deep dive into the Philips Hue app. Details about the device remain sketchy, but we can be reasonably sure it's in the pipeline. For starters, it appears the doorbell offers both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, with the former designed to aid discovery during setup.

Best smart lighting 2025: Smart bulbs, string lights, outdoor, and more

PCWorld

Ready to turn your house into a smart home? Replacing your dumb bulbs with smart ones is perhaps the easiest way to start. Many smart bulbs can be screwed into existing light sockets, and they can be controlled remotely, put on schedules, change colors, and more. If you're feeling more ambitious, you can venture into smart string lights, light strips, wall and ceiling fixtures, smart lamps, and even smart lighting for the yard or other outdoor areas. Our guide to the best smart lighting can help you navigate the thicket of options, from the various smart light manufacturers (like Philips Hue, LIFX, Nanoleaf, and Wyze) to the connectivity standards (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Matter). We'll also let you know which voice assistants (like Alexa, Apple's Siri, and Google Assistant) work with which lights. TechHive's editors and contributors have been testing smart bulbs and lighting products practically since the category was invented. We continuously test the latest smart lights, accessories, and the apps that control them.

Philips Hue adds AI-powered lighting options to its app

Engadget

If there's one certainty of 2025, it's that there will be a plethora of new AI products. For instance, you might say something like, "Create a scene for a dinner party" or write "Give me a scene for a quiet night in."

Detecting solar panel damage with Amazon Rekognition Custom Labels

#artificialintelligence

Enterprises perform quality control to ensure products meet production standards and avoid potential brand reputation damage. As the cost of sensors decreases and connectivity increases, industries adopt real-time imagery analysis to detect quality issues. At the same time, artificial intelligence (AI) advancements enable advanced automation, reduce overall cost and project time, and produce accurate defect detection results in manufacturing plants. As these technologies mature, AI-driven inspections are more common outside of the plant environment. This post describes our SOLVED (Solar Roving Eye Detector) project leveraging machine learning (ML) to identify damaged solar panels using Amazon Rekognition Custom Labels and alert operators to take corrective action.

The best smart lights you can buy

Engadget

One of the best places to start when building a smart home ecosystem is smart lights. Not only are they relatively affordable compared to other IoT gadgets, often costing between $10 and $50 a bulb, but they can also completely change the feel of your home. You can go from boring and analogue to colorful and automated within minutes, and there are endless possibilities when it comes to creating funky-colored light scenes, setting schedules and more. But like the rest of the smart home space over the last few years, there are now more players in smart lighting than ever before. We tested out some of the most popular smart lights on the market and found that most of them are quite good, but there are differences in compatibility, color quality and mobile app usability that are worth considering before deciding which system will be right for your home.

Senic Friends of Hue Outdoor Smart Switch review: A versatile problem solver

PCWorld

Installing any kind of light switch where no wiring is already present is difficult to do on your own and expensive if you pay an electrician to do the work. If you're looking to control Philips Hue smart lighting, you might find Senic's Friends of Hue Outdoor Smart Switch to be pricey at $79, but you can install it yourself in less time than it takes to fetch a screwdriver. The secret behind the easy installation is that the Friends of Hue Outdoor doesn't connect to your home's electrical wiring--it doesn't even rely on batteries. Instead, the switch harvests the kinetic energy generated by pressing one of the switch's four buttons (one at the top and one at the bottom of each paddle). This generates enough energy to send a radio signal to a second-generation Philips Hue Bridge, using the Bridge's Zigbee mesh network.

Google Assistant's Gentle Sleep and Wake feature now works with all smart lights

PCWorld

Google Assistant already knows how to slowly brighten a smart light to simulate the sunrise, as well as how to gradually dim your smart lights at bedtime. The catch, however, was that it was only able to perform the trick with Philips Hue smart lights, but that's changing starting today. Besides the Assistant's improved "Gentle Sleep and Wake" functionality, Google is also rolling out a new pre-made routine designed to ease the strain of your workday. We'll cover the new Workday routine in a moment. First, Google just announced that over the next few days, it will start rolling out an update that allows Google Assistant to slowly brighten or dim all smart lights, not just those from Philips Hue.

Amazon Echo Plus (2nd Gen) review: Good sound, plus a Zigbee smart-home hub for the win

PCWorld

Amazon released the first Echo Plus smart speaker/smart-home hub in 2017, and this second generation arrived a year later. What makes it "Plus" is simple: A built-in Zigbee radio. That eliminates the need to also have something like a Samsung SmartThings or a Hubitat Elevation on your network--at least to control other smart home devices that use Zigbee. We'll get deeper into that in a bit. The second-generation Echo Plus has one other minor new addition: An ambient temperature sensor, so you can ask Alexa what the temperature in the room is, in addition to getting a weather report that includes the current temperature outside.
